euan semple and TalkNet

saw a presentation by Euan Semple on Tuesday - lots of example of people using blogs, forums, wikis and other web 2.0 type stuff in real life settings examples, taken from his days at the beeb. He was talking to a group of people associated with TALKNet, a project seeking to create a network leading uk government eGov National Projects

interesting discussion and a good bunch of people but I fear that the Talknet project looks like a brave attempt to do some joiny up stuff but using a combination of academics and local government... hmmm.

Hope they can inject a bit more 'just get on and do it' about it - and look forward to joining in when it gives me something to join in with.

Nice to meet Euan though - seems like a decent fella and hope he can get involved with the Digital Festival in some way.

video nation at 6am

woke up early with the heat and chanced upon the BBC video nation homegrown hollywood. Shame it's on so early/late but it struck me how cool it is that we have such high quality diy videos on the telly - and how great it is that the BBC is pushing forward with this sort of broadcast material.

Oh and and the channel four documentary stuff is grand, although online only I think?

some thoughts:
more content about business - contact with brighton business etc
work with argus to see what we can do about the date info in their headers
colate reports about words being used
host a progress meeting for search engine group and others - August
arrange Board meeting
draft digital strategy for board meeting

Catching up with ESCIS

Just had a great meeting about ESCIS [East Sussex Community Information Service] with Rhona Drever and Anita Cundell from East Sussex County Council and Nigel Inny [sp] from Brighton & Hove Council. We covered p2b and the various links with ESCIS and what we could do in the future.

I obviously hadn't quite understood how little anyone at ESCIS knows about p2b - I guess I'd used Brighton Council as my key point of contact but little if anything had filtered through to Rhona's level. We agreed that this needing rectifying and suggested more rfegular review-type meetings could help with this.

I also emphasised the need for B&H and East Sussex Council's to imporve communications and take a more strategic joint position to ensure that ESCIS fulfills its real potential as a community information resource.

Not sure what's next but they plan to sort out more structred relationship with SCIP and I will include them [Anita and Rhona] when communicating about p2b.
