Wireless networking is already popular in Brighton - we have the Pier-to-Pier project and the people from Loose Connections doing their best to promote wireless usage.
More on both at www.looseconnection.com and www.piertopier.net.
Further afield are the good people of Oregon, building a network of people willing to share their radio networks and the bandwidth they alreayd buy. Take a look at www.personaltelco.net.
Wi-fi offers a lot of possible benefits as its usage grows and the cost of the technology falls - but perhaps we need a bigger push to make it come together in Brighton and Hove?
Hi,
I'm one of the operators of PierToPier.net - we've built a free-access WiFi network on Brighton Beach. You should be able to get a signal anywhere from Alfresco to the Palace Pier, including areas like Kings Road and Regency Square.
PierToPier isn't a company - it's run by volunteers, and we've built the network from scratch out of kind donations made by local businesses. It's a really great example of what can be done with a good idea and loads of enthusiasm!
In order to survive and grow, we need sponsorship, publicity, and donations. If you (or someone you know) are able to help us out with any of these, please let us know:
sponsorship at piertopier dot net
thanks a lot,
